Dumb Deck of the Day: Ruby/Sapphire Itempalooza

Welcome to our first full week of cardboard (for those of us fortunate enough to have acquired some) Disney Lorcana’s second set: Rise of the Floodborn.

Today’s dumb deck is a redux of the Sapphire Steel item “storm” decks we saw with The First Chapter. Those decks tended to use Maurice – World Famous Inventor and Ariel – Whoseit Collector to try to “go off,” but today’s deck (while still running some Ariels) takes a different, board-development approach instead of trying for the flashy one-turn-kill that Ariel could potentially provide. Let’s take a look:

What I like about this build, is that it plays an old-school control game – it’s light on win conditions (with only 6 big lore-getters in Ariel, Tamatoa, and Grand Pabbie) but the velocity of the deck – that is, your ability as pilot to be able to reliably see more of your cards is very high thanks to cards like Maurice’s Workshop, Hiram Flaversham and Pawpsicle.

The gameplay of the deck is fairly simple: try to get yourself to 8 ink without losing, and along the way you can control their board with Be Prepared and Let It Go while crashing into their guys with a level of impunity provided by Jasmine – Heir of Agrabah, your items, and You Can Fly! which keep your characters alive once they’re on the board.

Give this deck a spin, and let me know what you think about it on twitter @02drop. I think it needs some tweaking to really rack up the wins, but if you want a good base for an item-centric deck that draws a lot of cards and wins over the course of a turn or two, this is a great place to start.

See you tomorrow!
