Dumb Deck of the Day: So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance…

With this morning’s discovery that Rise of the Floodborn is available in the Disney Lorcana app, it’s time to start brewing dumb decks again, and this one’s a doozy, but it requires some context.

There’s a term of art in Magic: the Gathering – Magical Christmasland, and it means “a combination of cards which are unlikely to be available to you at the same time, but when they are…it’s awesome.

I won’t get into the history of the terminology, because the coiner of the phrase is banned for life from Magic, but I will say that this combo deck is very heavy on the “it probably won’t work” vibes. Here’s the decklist:

The combo is…simple, but it’s not easy (note: the You Can Fly should be Go The Distance):

Get Madam Mim – Rival of Merlin and a Dr. Facilier or a Fairy Godmother – Mystic Armorer onto the board, preferably with Merlin – Shapeshifter already in play. Then, using Mim’s Gruesome and Grim ability, play out a Lefou – Instigator. Lefou’s Fan the Flames ability will ready Mim, allowing you to push out another character with her Gruesome and Grim ability. If you have Dr. Facilier or Fairy Godmother in play, you can challenge a character to return Lefou, and machine gun their characters into oblivion, 2 damage at a time.

But wait, there’s more!

If you have a Merlin – Shapeshifter in play, he gains +1✨ each time a character returns to your hand. So, for each character Lefou can challenge/return with the rush ability from Madam Mim, Merlin will gain another lore pip. This leads to huge quests from Merlin, and one-sided Be Prepared for you.

This deck obviously gets decimated by creatures with Evasive, and by spot removal, but if you get it going, it can create a pretty obscene scenario that just might be worth it if you wanna do something especially dumb.

See y’all on Wednesday!
